Program Overview
Below is a snapshot of the five distinct courses in the 20-unit program to be taken in sequence.
Foundational Courses (7 units)
Essentials 1: Preparing the Self (4 units)
Providing the foundation for the Essentials Coaching Certificate program, students utilize Essentials concepts and tools to examine thoroughly the narratives guiding their own lives and begin to develop communication tools for assuming greater responsibility for and effectiveness in their future learning and progress.
Essentials 1 practicum (3 units)
Centered around a four-day residential intensive, students deepen their understanding and experience of the foundational concepts of Essentials 1 and begin to reinterpret the story of their lives in order to make positive future choices motivated by vision and faith rather than fear.
Coaching Skills Training Courses (8 units)
Essentials Coaching: The Experience of Being Coached (4 units)
Through observation and practice, students develop the ability to articulate the distinctions of the Essentials model and, through group practice sessions, begin to develop their personal coaching style.
Essentials Coaching Training: The Practice of Coaching (4 units)
This is the demarcation point where students begin applying the skills of being an Essentials Coach through one-on-one practice coaching relationships and learn the additional coaching distinctions and leadership skills that can be used throughout one’s professional and personal life.
Coaching Skills Practicum (5 units)
Essentials Coaching Training practicum
As the culmination of the program, student coaches participate in a four-day residential intensive in order to demonstrate the required knowledge and skills of a Certified Integrative Coach Professional (CICP) and to prepare for external certification.
